Higher Education Decarbonization Pilot

As an enhancement to New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program’s Large Energy Users Program (LEUP), the Higher Education Decarbonization Pilot encourages existing colleges and universities to invest in their decarbonization goals and reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. This pilot program focuses on incentivizing a broad scope of decarbonization strategies including energy efficiency, beneficial electrification, electric vehicle chargers, storage, and combined heat and power, and more.


Incentive

Up to $5M available per applicant:

  • Reimbursements of up to 100% of the cost for the development of a decarbonization plan.
  • Reimbursements of $1,000/ton of CO2 equivalent reduced, up to 75% of total project cost, for decarbonization measures implemented.

Eligibility

  • Existing accredited colleges and universities with a multi-building campus.
    • New construction projects are not eligible.
  • Plan must encompass entire campus or collection of campuses and include multiple decarbonization strategies.
